"YOU'RE ALREADY PERFECT" / HANNAH / SINGER, SONGWRITER, & GIRL POWER ENTHUSIAST

Long and steady streams of messages come to my Instagram inbox every single day. An eight-year-old girl says her parents won’t let her wear makeup. An eleven-year-old girl says her family can’t afford clothes at the mall. A thirteen-year-old girl says no boys ever look at her. Day turns to day turns to day and nothing changes. Goodness, the words. The hideous words. Ugly. Fat. Stupid. Useless. One day in 9th grade, I got a message from a child who said she didn’t understand why God put her here. For whatever reason, this message in particular hit me in the stomach. I realized that as a musical influence on these girls, I also had a responsibility to become a role model and act as something bigger than myself.

I WANT GIRLS TO KNOW THAT THEY ARE MORE THAN ENOUGH.
THEY ARE PERFECT EXACTLY THE WAY THEY ARE.
— HANNAH // SINGER, SONGWRITER, & GIRL-POWER ENTHUSIAST

Hey there. My name is Hannah Richardson, I’m sixteen-years-old, and I’m a singer, songwriter, and face of a major company whose mission statement is literally, “Go out into the world knowing that you are beautiful, important, unique, capable, and amazing just the way you are!” Now, before we jump into the nitty-gritty details of changing the world, here are some fun facts: I’m obsessed with peanut butter, I love the fiddle and mandolin more than anything, oh, and I’ve read the Harry Potter series more than a million times...probably. Now that we’ve got those fun tidbits of info out of the way, let’s talk!

As a Pennsylvanian kid, my childhood basically involved running around in cornfields and listening to my parents blast Fleetwood Mac. At six years old, I started singing at church which eventually led me on a journey to over 500 live performances across the United States, concerts at The Apollo Theater and The Nashville Palace, and records with my original music! Blazing with mandolins, electric guitars, and lyrics sweetly laced with a lil’ Southern twang, my style is pretty much Country-Pop with an Irish twist. Music aside, the most rewarding part of this journey hasn’t been the crowds...it’s been making the world better. How, you might ask? Well, that’s where Gomee Girl, a company interested in inspiring girls to be themselves, comes in.

Hannah's girl power infused album, Chasing Rainbows, is out on September 23rd, 2017. In the meantime, press play for an exclusive link to the album's title track.

Through positive social media campaigns, school assembly events, and patches with positive images and messages for girls that can be worn on everything from backpacks to blue jeans, the organization’s main mission is improving the self-esteem of young girls. As the face of the company, my job is to represent them in a good light, design exclusive products, and write some epic, girl-power music that’ll make their followers proud to be a part of the family. However, the most important (and pressing) responsibility I have taken on is giving advice to girls who are followers of myself and/or the company.

This all began out of a need for organization and simplicity. After receiving numerous comments from girls who wanted advice on everything from basketball practice to boy trouble, the organization suggested that I start speaking with girls via their web page, “Get Inspired With Hannah”. This page would be an easy access place to display questions and answers and a simple and helpful way for girls to communicate. Despite the time commitment and rather emotional nature of the job, this has become one of the most rewarding experiences in my life. Nothing is more fulfilling than a girl who at one point felt she was “useless”, and now messages me with pictures of herself at a school dance. These girls are all so incredibly and beautifully unique and I want them all to know that one day, they’ll be barefoot office queens taking on the world and making it better...

So, why do I spend so much time doing this stuff? I’ll tell you: I want girls to know that they are more than enough. They are perfect exactly the way they are. Women are, unfortunately, over sexualized in the media today. These young and impressionable girls then attempt to strive for the unattainable and fail miserably. How could they not fail? How could these girls look like a model who actually doesn’t even look like herself? I’m simply honored to be a representing an organization that is so invested in the support of girls and their confidence, and that they allow me to be a part of that change. Although I’m just a sixteen year old girl in high school, I truly believe I can make a difference, and hope to continue sharing a message of positivity among girls of all ages, whether via releasing a girl-power infused album on September 23rd, 2017, giving advice on the organization’s website, or simply writing about my experiences on Bloom Journal!
